Following cancellations of Jonas Kaufmann, Kristine Opolais and suspension of James Levine, MET announced on December 12th that it is now Bry Terfel who had to step down, due to illness, from performing Scarpia at the end of December 31st, 2017 and on January 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 23rd, 27th 2018.

According to the “Opera Wire” Mr Terfel stated:

“I am extremely disappointed to have to cancel these performances,” said Terfel said in a press release. “I was particularly happy to be returning to the Metropolitan Opera with this exciting new staging, and it is a terrible shame not to be a part of it.”

Welsh Bass-Bariton has already cancelled the complete “Ring” cycle earlier this year at the Vienna State Opera.

Opera View wishes Mr Terfel to get well soon and is looking forward to hearing his impressive voice in the coming year.
